On Wednesday and Thursday night I got to see one of my all time favorite bands, Sparks, in Chicago. These guys have 22 albums out and have been doing their own thing since the 70's. The last time they came to Chicago was 1982 or 83. I was lucky enough to also see them in 1988 (I think) in LA...purely by chance. My band was in LA rehearsing for a show and on the way back from a rehearsal we passed a Tower Records that had a big sign about a Sparks in-store. I had the band drop me off and figured I'd find my way back somehow. I got my copy of Interior Design signed by Ron and Russell that day and then they did a short set outside of Tower Records. That was a very very cool day.
Sparks Wednesday November 6th at Lincoln Hall in Chicago.
Last night The Handcuffs came to town and played the Cowboy Monkey. Had a great night seeing lots of old and new friends.
Pictured above are 3 of the 5 Handcuffs. L to R Chloe Orwell, Brad Elvis (Elvis Brothers, The Romantics) and Emily Tongi. Brad and Chloe were also at the Sparks show Wednesday night.
I have been busy busy busy over the last few months. Most of what I've been doing is producing other artists in the studio and I. CAN. NOT. WAIT. for you all to hear it! At this point it will be up to the individual artists to decide when you will be able to hear the songs but there is one I can post.
This is Doubt by David Howie:
The story behind the production
David came over and recorded a basic track of his acoustic guitar and lead vocal. I captured this performance live on a portable digital recorder. It's amazing the quality you can get from inexpensive recorders and decent microphones. We used a drum machine to make sure David stayed in time. From there I moved the tracks to my studio computer, removed the drum machine and I added all the other instruments you hear on the track. Bass, drums, guitar, banjitar, etc... I had a blast working on this. There are a few other David songs waiting in the wings for me to complete. Now it's just up to me to find the time to get them done.
